We are jay & Theresa Lode and we'll let you in a little secret...
Jay's first name is actually Rusty. And yup, our last name is Lode. We pronounce it "LOH-DEE" but that doesn't work so well as a business name so we'll roll with the "LOAD" pronunciation.
Ever since he was a little Rock Hound growing up in Montana, Jay has loved all things rock. Theresa? Yeah, I had quite the rock collection as a kid and was quite fond of Sparkling Hematite...especially since it was in abundance near my Michigan home.
When we were married 30 years ago, we learned a few things early on. Jay loves collecting rocks. I, Theresa, like clean counter space. So, Jay's collection remained small and he learned to appease me with polished jade and things that sparkle (like my favorite celestite). In spite of this potential rift - we didn't find fault with each other. We managed to earn some college degrees, raise three great kids and still like being around each other. Oh, and no schist, we like rock puns too.
Now that we're older and hopefully a little wiser, we are taking the advice we've often given to others: Own your life story. And if you don't like it, change it. So this is part of our story do-over. Less computer time, more face-to-face. Facebook is great but can never substitute for real life.
But back to our business...
We saw that a rock and mineral business was liquidating their inventory and we jumped on the opportunity to purchase it. In the past, whenever we've attended rock and gem shows, we've often mused, "WE should do this!" So we scrapped together some savings and here we are - eager to launch a new chapter in our story.
Jay will still be a CPA and Theresa, a Certified Life Coach...but by golly, we're going to crank up the fun in our lives with The Rusty Lode. If you stop by our booth, we may even toss in a tax tip or a life coaching nugget. (Sorry, I can't seem to help myself with these puns.)
Miscellaneous factoids on us - Jay loves yoga and a good microbrew. I would rather Zumba and prefer a nice merlot. Together, we love camping, laughing and enjoying our young adult kids, Daniel, Molly and Caleb. We also try to practice living mindfully as part of our effort to bring more peace into the world.
